Nova Program Manager - Summer 2018 - Unity College

Job Description:
The Nova Program Manager will assist the Director of the Outdoor Adventure Center (OAC) with managing the Unity College wilderness orientation program (Nova) for incoming college students. Overall duties will include providing direction and guidance to Nova Co-Leaders, assisting with risk management, coordinating equipment and food, and assisting with other logistic duties pertaining to Nova. Specific duties include (but are not all inclusive):
Provide coordination of the equipment room.
Assist with organizing pre-Nova trip logistics to include: food, equipment and trip routes.
Purchase food and supplies.
Support leaders with completing necessary pre- and post-trip work.
Assist with Nova training.
Make trips to field sites at least weekly to check in with co-leaders and to provide support and direction.
Greet new groups of parents and students.
Assist with risk management appropriate to program.
Assist with emergency situations that may arise.
Effectively communicate program goals and information to students and staff throughout the program.
Help promote the developmental goals of the program.
Develop positive working relationships with other Nova staff.
Contribute to the college's commitment to sustainability and diversity and inclusion.
Maintain safety and risk management standards.
Serve as a role model for the college's code of conduct.
Demonstrate a high degree of commitment to customer service and quality education.
May also be called upon to lead trips as needed.
The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent as well as:
Demonstrated outdoor wilderness and leadership knowledge and experience.
Competence in a wide range of outdoor skills and challenge course facilitation.
Risk management skills to include understanding risk management and implementation appropriate to program.
First-aid skills
CPR for the professional rescuer or equivalent
WFR (Wilderness First Responder) certification or higher
lifeguard or water rescue certification required or equivalent
Ability to backpack, camp, and canoe in wilderness setting
Must be able to carry a 50lb backpack over rough terrain
Leave No Trace Trainer Training is required
Ability to provide direction to and train Nova Co-leaders
Valid driver's license and good driving record
Certified Unity College van driver
High level of motivation
Team player philosophy
Strong independent problem solving skills
Excellent organization skills with the ability to track records
Ability and willingness to work with incoming students from diverse political/socioeconomic backgrounds and a wide range of physical and academic abilities
Mature aptitude
Ability to represent Unity College and the Nova Program in a professional manner to students, staff, faculty, parents, and public
Attention to detail and ability to multi-task
Additional Information:
This is a temporary, seasonal, pre-semester work schedule from June 17th - August 24, 2018. Trips last five days and require staff to stay overnight. Must be flexible and cooperative in fulfilling responsibilities in meeting the college's needs. Work is performed inside and outside. Occasional sever outside weather condition and occasionally exposed to wet, cold, and/or humid conditions.
Nova trips are designed to support the transition to college life at Unity by emphasizing personal growth, building social connections, and promotion environmental stewardship. Nova activities include team-building, community living, group problem-solving, in addition to canoeing, kayaking, hiking, backpacking, skiing, snowshoeing, primitive skills, ice climbing and assorted base-camp opportunities.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
