Prep Cook (38 Weeks) - Unity College

Job Description:
This is a 38 week (school year) position that provides quality food services. The Prep Cook prepares and cooks ingredients for students, faculty, staff, and visitors while on duty at Wyman Commons at Unity College. The Prep Cook works with the Production Manager / Sous Chef to respond to student needs and requests. The Prep Cook supports and is supported by other members of the Sustainability work unity and works with all constituencies to realize the Unity College Mission and Strategic Plan. The Prep Cook reports to the Assistant Director of Dining. Specific duties include (but are not all inclusive):
Prepares ingredients for current shift and next shift as needed, and refills salad bar and other stations during shift.
Prepares ingredients for menu items and cooks food according to recipes, in quantities according to number of persons to be served.
Cooks and serves food at stations, helping maintain cleanliness of salad bar and/or stations, and assisting in clean-up during and after open hours.
Contributes to daily reports, schedules, and charts in area of responsibility, ensuring inventory is accurate, and food is not over-ordered.
Occasionally performs shift cash in and cash out, maintaining accurate amount of money and petty cash in cash drawer.
Occasionally manages point of sale system, including swiping ID cards, collecting money from customers, and ensuring that no customers consume food or beverages without swiping or paying.
Occasionally washes dishes and post.
Demonstrates compliance with safety and sanitation regulations.
Shows support for the college mission through sustainable practices.
Demonstrates a high degree of commitment to customer service.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED equivalent and one (1) or more years of related experience and/or training. Must have cash management/reporting and inventory control accountability. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Have Serve-Safe Certification or ability to obtain one within six (6) months of hire. Ability to read and comprehend written and oral instructions. Ability to respond effectively to customer inquiries or complaints. Proficient in the use of cash management and/or point of sale systems. Valid driver's license with a good driving record is preferred.
Additional Information:
This position works a rotating schedule which will include daytime, evening, night, and weekend shifts, and extended hours required as needed. Must be flexible and cooperative in fulfilling responsibilities and in meeting the college's needs. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. Must regularly lift and/or mover up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Able to use the computer and telephone for internal and external communications.
Work is performed in a food service setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical equipment and is frequently exposed to heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but during certain events can be very loud.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
